About me
Over the past two years I have been working as a User Experience Researcher at the UK Home Office. I’ve worked across a range of fascinating projects to make sure they meet their user’s needs and are usable all levels of digital skill. These have included:
- The EU settlement scheme application – the digital application EU citizens need to complete if they wish to stay in the UK after Brexit
- The design of GOV.UK’s UK Visas and Immigration section
- Internal criminal intelligence databases
- Case working system for answering freedom of information requests
This supports my application to Founders and Coders for three reasons:
- I have experience working in an Agile development team across a wide range of circumstances. This experience means I can adapt to each project we work, each role within the project and support others and myself in our development.
- I already have experience helping others learn how to code. At the Home Office I feel being able to create HTML and CSS prototypes for research is a valuable skill. So when the new round of interns joined I gave those who wished a personal tutorial session on how to use the gov.uk prototyping kit and github, with further support if they wished.
- I will be able to pass on what I’ve learnt about user experience research and design to others on the course. A better understanding of user needs amongst developers means a better final product that will need less drastic changes.
